3 Types of Costs of Day 1 CPT
Up to $25,000 per year
In addition to application fees that can be waived through Day1CPT, the cost of a program typically consists of 3 types of expenses:
(1) tuition
(2) commuting cost (for on-site classes)
(3) additional fees
All scholarships are exclusive to Day1CPT applicants and cannot be obtained through direct university application.
(1) Tuition
Most Day 1 CPT master’s and doctoral programs typically range from approximately $9,000 to $30,000+ per year, although some programs may cost more depending on specialization and location. A lower tuition program may still become more expensive if frequent on-site travel is required.
Top 5 Cheapest Day 1 CPT Universities:
(2) Commuting Cost (for On-site Classes)
Day 1 CPT students are required to attend on-site classes, which can result in additional costs for flights, trains, gas for driving, and hotel accommodations.
Let's compare two scenarios:
(1) You live in Boston and choose New England College in New Hampshire, which requires students to attend a three-day on-site session (Friday to Sunday) once per semester. Driving to the school will cost you about $40-50 in fuel for a round trip. Additionally, since the Friday class starts at 8 am, you need to arrive on Thursday night, requiring a hotel stay for three nights (Thursday to Saturday). Assuming that the hotel is $130 per night, you will spend $390 for the hotel. The commuting cost for one on-site class would be around $440. There are three on-site sessions per year, so the annual commuting cost would be $1,320.
(2) You live in Boston and choose Monroe University in New York, which requires students to attend a one-day on-site session once per month. Driving to the school will cost you around $90-110 in fuel for a round trip. If you choose to make a day trip, you can avoid hotel costs (it might be exhausting, though). For the entire year, you will attend about nine on-site classes in total, making the total commuting cost approximately $900. While Monroe University has a higher on-site requirement, its annual commuting cost for Boston-based students is lower compared to New England College.
Therefore, when choosing a Day 1 CPT university, it is important to consider factors such as location, on-site requirement, and the duration of on-site class. Choosing a school closer to your residence, with fewer required on-site classes, or with shorter on-site duration is crucial for reducing commuting costs.
(3) Additional Fee
Besides the tuition fees, you may be required to pay the following fees:
- CPT fee ($200-350/semester)
- Textbook fee ($100-200/semester)
- Technology fee ($150)
- Enrollment/Program fee ($200-500)
- I-20 fees ($200)
- Graduation fee ($50-100)
Each Day 1 CPT school has its own fee structure. For more information, see our Day 1 CPT school list.
